Prior to Carlyle, Mr. Steen worked in the Private Equity team at 3i Group plc and was based in their London office. Mr. Steen received a Bachelor of Business Science from the University of Cape Town, is a Chartered Accountant as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder.

Eric Kump is a Partner at Alterra Capital Partners and is based in London, United Kingdom. Mr. Kump has over 25 years of international private equity experience across a variety of sectors. Prior to joining Alterra, Mr. Kump was a Carlyle Partner and head of the Carlyle Sub-Saharan Africa Fund.  He was previously a Managing Director of Carlyle European Partners and investment committee member.  Prior to Carlyle, he was a Managing Director and Head of the European Private Equity team of Dubai International Capital (DIC). Prior to that he was a Managing Director with Merrill Lynch Global Private equity (MLGPE) where he was a member of the global investment committee. Mr. Kump received his MBA from Harvard Business School and received a BA in Finance and Accounting from Pace University.

Genevieve Sangudi is a Partner at Alterra Capital Partners and is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Ms. Sangudi has over 16 years of private equity experience in Africa. Prior to joining Alterra, Ms. Sangudi was Managing Director of the Carlyle Sub-Saharan Africa Fund which she joined from inception. Ms. Sangudi was previously a Partner and Managing Director with Emerging Capital Partners, where she established and managed the firm’s Nigeria operations and played a lead role in deal sourcing, execution and value creation, particularly for companies in the financial services, oil and gas and petrochemicals sectors. Ms. Sangudi also has significant experience in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, having started her career at Procter & Gamble, where she worked on market strategies for numerous global brands. Ms. Sangudi received an MBA from Columbia Business School, a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs and a BA from Macalester College.

Mohammed

Idris Mohammed is a Partner at Alterra Capital Partners and is based in Lagos, Nigeria. Mr. Mohammed has more than 21 years of private equity experience spanning the United States and Africa across a variety of sectors. Prior to joining Alterra, Mr. Mohammed was Managing Director and Partner at Carlyle Sub-Saharan African Fund. Before joining Carlyle, he was at Africa-focused private equity firm DPI, which he joined as a Partner from inception. He was based in London and headed the Lagos office. He helped raise two funds at DPI and led a number of acquisitions across Africa, including in Botswana, Nigeria and Egypt. Mr Mohammed began his private equity career at Goldman Sachs in New York, where he was a member of the Special Situations Group and helped build the clean energy investing business. Mr. Mohammed received his BS in industrial engineering from Lehigh University and his MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
